Tips For Safe Indoor Tanning

by Betty P Davis

If you decide a tanning salon will best serve your needs, make sure you are safe about it. Most tanning salons are very safety oriented but you need to take the time to protect yourself as well. This will also help to ensure you get the best possible tan out of the experience.

The amount of melanin that your skin has will determine how dark you will get. It is also going to affect how much exposure from the UV rays that your skin can handle before it is going to burn. This will vary for each person so start with a low exposure time and see how it works for you.

It is important that you have a realistic idea of what you can safely get from indoor tanning. If your skin burns quickly outdoors then it will indoors too. Since the indoor tanning bulbs speed up the exposure, you need to cut back that amount of time by at least 2/3. This means if you generally burn after 30 minutes in the sun, you need to only be in the indoor tanning session for 10 minutes or less.
